For the 2021-22 rankings and ratings, U.S. News evaluated more than 4,750 medical centers nationwide in 15 specialties and 17 procedures and conditions. Within the 15 specialty areas, 175 hospitals were ranked in at least one specialty. In rankings by state and metro area, U.S. News recognized hospitals as high performing across multiple areas of care. The annual Best Hospitals rankings and ratings, now in their 32nd year, are designed to assist patients and their doctors in making informed decisions about where to receive care for challenging health conditions or for common elective procedures. JOSEPH'S HEALTH ANNOUNCES THE HIRING OF A NEW INTERVENTIONAL CARDIOLOGIST St. Joseph's Hospital welcomes interventional cardiologist Charles Nicolais, MD, to the Cardiovascular Institute. In his new role, Dr. Nicolais joins a team of diverse and highly qualified physicians to provide a higher level of cardiovascular care to the Syracuse community. Dr. Nicolais is a board-certified cardiologist who recently completed advanced coronary and structural heart interventional training. Before joining St. Joseph's Health, Dr. Nicolais completed a two-year interventional and structural cardiology fellowship at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center. The training included basic interventional cardiology as well as complex coronary artery interventions and structural heart interventions including TAVR, MitraClip, WATCHMAN and PFO closure. Prior to that, he spent three years training at Temple University in a cardiovascular medicine fellowship, where he gained clinical and research experience on cardiovascular diseases and served as Chief Fellow in his third year. Dr. Nicolais is certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine in internal medicine, cardiovascular medicine and interventional cardiology. He also holds board certifications from the National Board of Echocardiography and the Certification Board of Nuclear Cardiology. Dr. Nicolais grew up in Syracuse, NY and attended Westhill High School. He earned his bachelor's degree in chemistry from Wagner College on Staten Island, N.Y. and his medical degree from George Washington University in Washington, DC. He completed his internal medicine residency at Temple University where he served as Chief Resident in 2016. Dr. Nicolais assumed his role at Saint Joseph's Health in August 2021 and is welcoming new patients at 4212 Medical Center Drive, Fayetteville, NY 13066.
