People are still running oen. Of that there is no doubt. But our survey shows that some are running slightly less than they were last year. And their feelings about buying certain products have changed slightly, with some categories rising and some falling. e majority of runners still say they run on the street (51%), but treadmill running is on the rise among those we surveyed (13% in 2022 vs. 9% in 2021). Recovery footwear is on the rise, with 20% of our 2022 respondents saying they have purchased recovery footwear (up 3% from 2021). And those who say they "have never heard of recovery footwear" dropped from 47% to 38% y-o-y. Insoles are also trending up, based on our consumer survey. When asked how important their choice of insoles is to their running experience, 45% of runners we surveyed say it is "very important." at is a 9% jump from 2020. e questions we asked about the "end of life" for running shoes were also revealing. We found that 82% of runners think shoes should come with an expiration date letting them know when to replace their shoes, and 86% say they would be more likely to purchase from a brand that offers a "take back" program to recycle shoes once the shoes have reached their "end of life." n e survey, conducted by MESH01, included 336 respondents, men and women, ages 18 to 60 who identify themselves as active runners.
