YES What a great idea! I probably wait too long to replace so yes 100%! FEMALE 37 That would be great but seems difficult as shoes breakdown differently based on a runner's weight, form, terrain. MALE 54 There are shoes designed to last for just a couple of races and trainers designed to last 500+ miles. Would be nice to know how long they're designed to last. MALE 35 It's good to know about how many miles you can get in a running shoe but a lot of times I can also go by the wear and tear of the shoe. FEMALE 39 It would be helpful to have a rough estimate of mileage rather than basing it off of visual signs of deterioration (which can be tough) or even feel (even tougher). MALE 34 This is a must and part of the reason I track my running miles. MALE 43 This would be interesting and beneficial especially if certain shoes can only withhold a certain amount of distance before they start to weaken or thin out in a way one may not realize right away. FEMALE 39 I may or may not follow the recommendation, but it'd be nice to have. MALE 37 Would love this! FEMALE 42 Cool idea. I've run in shoes that are well warn out. MALE 37 "Should" is a strong word, but having this would be helpful. FEMALE38 Foam compression and tread vary so widely, a mileage rating would be very helpful. MALE 47 Most runners can tell but for the novice runner it would be helpful. MALE 31 Would need a lower and upper bounds of the rating. Lower meaning that you start noticing degraded performance; upper meaning no longer recommend use. MALE 39 Might be nice to know the design life of the midsole, since that is not as immediately apparent as to when it has passed its usable life. MALE 44 I'd love to be able to tell how many miles are expected. Sometimes tread wear is not the best indicator. MALE 52 This would help convince my husband that I NEED new shoes. FEMALE 41 NO I think people need to recognize the mileage maximum that is optimal for them. It's all in how you run, how often and the distances of your runs. I burned through shoes a lot faster when I was marathon training versus 25 miles a week at an easy pace. FEMALE 50 I always replace running shoes depending on feel. MALE 41 Varies by mileage and gait. FEMALE 51 MAYBE I've never really thought about it before and I'm not sure if they would actually last the amount of miles given so I'd say it is a good idea but I don't think they should have too. FEMALE 38 This is a tough one, each shoe has a useable life but sometimes I feel like people try to tell me shoes only last 300-400 miles to sell me more shoes. MALE 25 I keep an eye on them and go by how my body feels. It is a pretty good idea though. MALE 54 What do you do with your running shoes when they reach their "end of life?" Save them Garbage Other (Please specify) Donate Re-sell 11% 15% 1% 50% 23% I would want a credit back towards a new purchase or some monetary exchange/refund in the event that I do not stick with the brand. FEMALE 41 I love this idea and want my shoes to not just go in the trash. FEMALE 39 I would like that as long as the program did not raise the price of the shoe. MALE 44 It's cool but wouldn't make or break a sale. MALE 40 Fit still top priority. MALE 44 Choosing the right shoe for my comfort and performance would be much more a factor than this. My local running store offers a take back for donation and recycling program and I can easily drop my shoes in that bin. FEMALE 49 Do you think running shoes should come with a mileage rating / expiration date of how many miles you can run in them before you need a new pair? Would you be more likely to purchase from a shoe brand that offered a "take back" program where they recycle your shoes for you after the shoes have reached their "end of life?" 82% 86% 18% 14% YES YES NO NO 6% 27% 31% 21% 16% 3 months or less 3-6 months 6-9 months 9-12 months 1 year or more How often do you replace your running shoes? 74 • May/June 2022 sportstyle • sportstylemag.com CONTINUED FROM PAGE 46.
