Dan Senkiw PUBLISHER Long Island ............................................... dansenkiw@ lexmediagroup.com 914-967-6565 ............................................... @MDNewsMetroNY PUBLISHER from the Greetings, and welcome to MD News April. This month we visit Felix Oviasu, MD, FACC, FACP, FCCP, at Garden City Heart, where advanced management of heart failure spans the office and hospital settings. Patients benefit from a range of diagnostic tools, effective management of comorbidities and advanced interventional therapies. Next, we speak with Harry Mushlin, MD, of Stony Brook Neurosurgery Spine Center, who treats conditions including spinal stenosis, degenerative disk disease, tumors, trauma and scoliosis. While at Stony Brook, we also visit Stony Brook Cancer Center, where Alison Stopeck, MD, discusses some of the breast cancer clinical trials taking place there. We then turn to Long Island Laparoscopic Doctors, where Hesham Atwa, MD, FACS, FASMBS, discusses the advantages of metabolic surgery for the treatment of diabetes and obesity. Our clinical section on men's health reports on research based on the long-running Osteoporotic Fractures in Men study. Increased physical activity in men aged 65 and older is associated with greater mobility and functional strength, while reduced physical activity is associated with more hospitalizations. Just as physicians provide expert medical advice to their patients, they rely on high-quality professional guidance in legal and business matters. We're glad to share timely insights from the legal firm of Martin Clearwater & Bell LLP and financial advisor Dave Rao. We round out our issue with news about the accomplish- ments of local physicians and healthcare organizations. Contact me at 914-967-6565, @MDNewsMetroNY or dansenkiw@lexmediagroup.com to discover how MD News can inform area physicians about your organization's technologies and capabilities.
