I know Fall has arrived when the Guilford Fair comes to town, signs for apple picking appear roadside and my car registration renewal is due. e Connecticut DMV kindly reminded me of this autumn ritual the other day. Perusing the paperwork, I noticed a third line item added to my bill. In addition to the usual "Passport to Parks Fee," which proved its worth during the pandemic when state parks became a safe haven open to all, and "Clean Air Act Fee," there's a "Greenhouse Gas Reduction Fee." Perhaps this $7.50 cost was posted in a previous bill, but this time around I was hip to GHG emissions. In 2022 we are experiencing a deluge of climate-con- scious messaging. Case in point, a Pratt Industries ad in today's New York Times that states, "Where every week is Climate Week; Please buy 100% recycled boxes – and Help Save the Planet!" For me, every week I feel soaked with info on funding for green infrastructure, green energy and green goals to achieve net zero. e textile industry is doing its part; we had no problem filling every page of this issue of Textile Insight with eco-responsible strategies, technologies, R&D and material innovation. A couple areas stand out for being particularly ripe for sustainable advancement: textile-to-textile recycling, eliminating "forever chem- icals," and circular systems. We've got that covered. I'd like to call out the importance of the United Nations Development Goals, more commonly known as the SDGs. Recently I had the good fortune to attend a luncheon hosted by the United Nations Conscious Fashion and Lifestyle Network that celebrated busi- nesses driving positive change by implementing SDGs into their corporate agenda. Even as someone who has lived near the UN, and spends a lot of time in NYC, walking into the UN you can't help but say "wow." e SDGs are wow worthy, too. Sergio Fernández de Córdova, executive chairman, PVBLIC Foundation, an affiliate of the Conscious Fashion & Lifestyle Network, highlights the SDGs as a great framework for firms focused on accelerating sustainability. He states, "Ignoring circularity isn't really a viable option. Hopefully we frame the changes needed as an opportunity for innovation. If we don't disrupt and innovate now, materials/processes that are affordable now, might be constrained in the future." Based on our reporting, the textile community couldn't agree more. Cheers, Keeping Up with the Climate Conversation Even as someone who has lived near the UN, and spends a lot of time in NYC, walking into the UN you can't help but say "wow."
