Central New York 05-820 PUBLISHER from the ............................................... Rich Keene PUBLISHER Central New York ............................................... rkeene@mdnews.com 315-446-8331 ............................................... @MDNewsCentralNY Thank you very much for reading the November/December edition of MD News. Once again, we are excited to share more news about the world-class hea lth care available right here in Centra l New York. In our cover story, we examine the Nappi Wellness Institute at Upstate University Hospital. An increasing amount of data indicates an imperative need to improve healthcare equity for vulnerable patient populations — an issue that's been evident for years — and hospital systems across the country are attempting to level the field. With a $70 million grant from the New York Department of Health and a $75 million bonding opportunity to match funds, Upstate University Hospital has been working on a solution, and that work is about to come to fruition. Scheduled to open in early 2023, the Nappi Wellness Institute is a five-story, 200,000-square-foot outpatient facility that will integrate multiple primary and specialty care services and a bevy of unique amenities under one roof. The new institute is expected to remove many of the barriers that send patients to the hospital instead of getting timely, appropriate care in the lowest acuity setting. Our first feature focuses on Crouse Hospital's robotic-assisted surgery program. The program has become the largest and most successful of its kind in Central New York, thanks to a significant investment by hospital leadership in procuring the latest technology for the 25 participating surgeons. Launched in 2008, the program has grown to include seven robotic platforms, consisting of six da Vinci XI systems and the latest addition of a da Vinci Single Port system, the only one in Central New York. The second feature is on the Breast Care Program at Oneida Health. Mary Ellen Greco, MD, FACS, and Kristen McNeil, PA-C, joined Oneida Health this past February after working together for the last five years in Syracuse. Their arrival launched the new Oneida Health Breast Care service line. Both hailing from Central New York, they say it was a natural next step for them to bring high-quality comprehensive breast care to a community setting. Together, Dr. Greco and McNeil provide a complete spectrum of advanced breast care to the community. Once again, I would like to thank all those who come together to create our magazine. Here at MD News, we are dedicated to delivering an engaging reader experience, one with real local relevance.
