Central Pennsylvania 05-868 PUBLISHER from the ............................................... Susan Ecenbarger PUBLISHER Central Pennsylvania ............................................... secenbarger@mdnews.com 717-409-2929 ............................................... @MDNewsCentralPA Greetings. Welcome to MD News Central Pennsylvania. In this issue of MD News, we visit the specialists at Penn State Health Heart and Vascular. These dedicated pro- viders offer so many advanced therapies to patients in our community. They provide comprehensive, research-based disease management for patients who are in heart failure or who have suffered myocardial infarction. They perform heart transplants with excellent success rates. And they offer a leading-edge treatment for patients who present with aortic dissection. Our interviews get right to the heart of these approaches and what they mean for our community. In our national feature, we discuss the role of housing in health outcomes. Homelessness and housing instability are associated with worse outcomes. Some programs have found that housing assistance helps people better manage their health. Our clinical section on infectious diseases looks at a possible connection between multiple sclerosis and Epstein-Barr virus. People with a history of Epstein-Barr virus are at 32 times greater risk of developing multiple sclerosis, according to a study of more than 10 million archived blood samples taken by the U.S. Armed Forces. We also round up facts about immunization rates. I hope you enjoy this issue of MD News. Regards, Susan Ecenbarger
