carbon footprint. Details of better practice have been developed and widely adopted, such as the Textile Exchange Responsible Down Standard. Leather and wool from Regenerative Agricultural processes that are carbon negative will be highlighted. As for artificial or "vegan" leather, most of the alternatives (from banana, pineapple, or mushroom feedstocks) include a majority synthetic component. We acknowledge that the solution is never arrived at with a first iteration, and there will be many attempts to achieve the most suitable result; so this development is to be encouraged. For all three categories, values are collected and compared accordingly. At future shows, the vision is that only fabric samples with a measurable footprint will be accepted in the PERFORMANCE FORUM, just as the current bar is to only include swatches of materials with a positive environmental aspect. Of course, buying a "better" product will not save the world, but does raise the subject of whether buying better means that you are not buying bad; i.e. the purchase is less impactful. is also must consider whether a new purchase is necessary, rather than using something purchased previously. While the focus is on carbon, this aspect is just one of 13 actions within better practice responsibilities: Water Crisis, Eutrophication, Poverty, Biodiversity Loss, Health, Ecotoxicity, Education, Resource Scarcity, Inequality, Over-consumption, Air Pollutants, and Affordable Goods and Services.
