YES 39% NO 29% SOMETIMES 29% I don't like to bargain. So if I so the shoes are cheaper in another store, I will probably just go there. Female 49 If you frequently shop at the store and they know you as a loyal customer, yes. Female 44 Well, as a customer, I'm always looking for deals and have done that a few times; went to a physical store to try out different shoes and le without buying and got the shoe online with a reasonable discount. I believe they should be the same price or the store could have some type of loyalty awards to encourage customers to purchase shoes there. Male 37 It's an awkward situation. If I was looking on a site and saw they were cheaper it can't hurt to ask. I would rather give a local store business versus a big chain. Female 40 An associate has dedicated time and customer service and deserves the sale. Female 37 Truly it depends on how much of a difference in price it is. I think when at a specialty store when they go through the process of getting you fitted and trying on multiple styles I think that sometimes that is more valuable than saving a few dollars online. Female 58 e independent running shoe store I go to has points where you get money off aer you spend a certain amount. ey also offer a 30 day back money policy, insisting you run in the shoes and like them. Because of this I find that I am willing to pay full price. Female 29 No. I believe I'm paying for their expertise and time. Male 45 ose types of stores are smaller and probably do not have the extra wiggle room to price match like other stores might. ey spent quality time finding the perfect shoe and fitting it, they deserve the full amount. Female 53 Possibly, depending on if that store has a policy about that type of thing. Female 39 Depends on the situation. If a new model is coming out soon, then yes. Female 36 Stores offer convenience, as well as unique and personalized service that online retailers do not and there is a cost associated with this service. So I expect a store to have higher costs but specialized and useful service. Once I find a shoe brand I like I stick with it for many years and buy online as cheaply as possible, even searching out prior year models of the shoe I want. But when I am having an issue and want to try something different this is when I visit a specialized running store for help and to try something new. Male 37 Absolutely. I don't owe any company anything. ey owe me for putting time into considering their store. Male 37 It depends on how big the price difference is. I get loyalty discounts at the store I shop at so in that case I wouldn't ask for a lower price. Female 32 Depends on the situation. I believe it is fair to be charged a bit more for in-store service (if the sales person is knowledgeable and helpful). Male 54 Oen times running stores will price match and I don't think it is uncommon to ask. Female 21 I always do this!! But only if I am looking at a shoe I researched! Male 52 Most stores will price match any other brick and mortar store price. So it does not hurt to ask. Male 41 Depends on if the service was worth it. Male 36 Most of my running friends get fitted, then go buy online or somewhere else cheaper. Female 56 FINISH LINE 66 runstyle Fall 2023 runstylemag.com When shopping for running shoes at a running specialty or independent shoe store, after spending time being fitted and finding that perfect shoe, do you feel it is fair to ask for a lower price if it is offered online or elsewhere? Chart source: Mesh 01. Photo: Gilaxia/istock Depends on how much the difference is, how small the independent store is, and how brave I feel. Female 33 If you go to a running specialty or independent shoe store, you are paying for customer service as much as for the shoes themselves. Nickel 'n' diming a local business just makes you look a little clueless. Male 38 Consumer Survey: Selected comments from our survey of more than 400 runners.
