teaminsightmag.com July/August 2024 ~ Team Insight • 23 Switching gears a bit, what are the style trends for team sports in 2024 in terms of colors, types of caps, visors, etc.? Currier: Core colors remain popular, but we've seen new color variations rise to the top. e popularity of sublimation on jerseys is flowing over to the headwear space. We are seeing more requests coming in for the more unique colors outside of the traditional black, navy, red and royal. Performance/technical fabrics with creative accents are leading the charge on the style side. Nixon: White is still a trending color in the team space across all designs and fabrics. Perforation is in high demand for on-field performance and breathability. We are also seeing perforated styles as favorites in the fan- wear/lifestyle category. Bradney: Our performance-focused PTS collection continues to drive our on-field business. Perforated performance caps are in high demand. Fashion pop colors like Columbia Blue, orange and gold are on the rise, while white continues to be a staple with teens. Tim Nixon, Cap America: Don't just go for the on-field headwear. Offer it to the fans of the team with the team store. You can get great margin when selling hats to dad, mom and grandparents who follow the teams on the weekends. Spice these up with different logos than the team wears, do some tone-on-tone decoration, do them in alternate colors than the team wears every game. Chad Kennedy, The Game: Get in front of your coaches and teams as ear- lier as possible. Take advantage of manufacturer early-buy programs and incentives. They are great to help with increasing margins and in addition earlier deliveries open up other opportunities. Todd Bradney, Richardson: Your time is valuable, get paid for your work. Market prices for retail caps are $30-$40-plus. Team headwear is a custom product and dealers should get paid accordingly. Ryan Garrett, Nike Team: Show value through aligning the product you are selling with a MSRP value. By using the discount down method, versus cost up, you will gain gross margin quickly by selling the value of the product you are selling. There are many fashion brands in the retail space driving the MSRP value of headwear up today. Follow their lead! What advice would you give to team dealers to do a better, even more profitable job selling team headwear? TEAM HEADWEAR Custom built. Nike branded. Nike.Teamheadwear.com
