Billed as a tool to help users "document, share and learn," Figure 1 focuses on information sharing rather than diagnosis and facilitates dialogue — whether about a specific case, condition or phenomenon — among clinicians. Images can include arrows and annotations as well as searchable descriptions, and users can bookmark photos for future viewing. The app automatically detects and blocks faces to protect patients' privacy. Tattoos and other identifying features can be blocked with the draw function. Other users can flag any image that poses a privacy breach for review. The free app is available from the iTunes App Store. May 2013, the app can display images stored in the DICOM format, supporting the most common imaging modalities. With images sent using SSL encryption and stored with 256-bit AES encryption, MobileCT meets HIPAA standards. Images can be magnified, panned and adjusted for brightness and contrast — all while maintaining full resolution of the original images. Access to a MobileCT Medical Image Server is required. The PRO version of the app supports live streaming functionality, so users can collaborate while viewing the same image. This function synchronizes annotations, measurements and cursor movements. The app is available now for $9.99 from the iTunes App Store. regardless of location, time constraints or mobility. The videoconferencing app can be used on iOS devices and from computers. Then, patients are connected to a licensed physician for health care consultation. Medeo allows physicians to create prescriptions and refer patients to other physicians. The service also manages billing and saves all visit history, including prescriptions and referrals. Although Medeo is not available in the United States, the delivery model and its technology may be a forerunner for the American health system under the Affordable Care Act, which emphasizes access to care. The free app is available from the Canadian iTunes App Store. I
