Dr. Megerian believes this integrated multidisciplinary approach not only improves patient care and outcomes, but also enriches the work environment. This, he believes, is what helps the ENT Institute retain exceptional practitioners and recruit new ones. New Pediatric ENT recruits Dr. Todd Otteson was recently recruited to be Chief of Pediatric Otolaryngology at UH Case Medical Center and UH Rainbow Babies & Children's Hospital. He completed Medical School and residency training at Georgetown University in Washington, DC. After a two-year fellowship in Pediatric Otolaryngology at Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh of UPMC, he remained on staff for seven years — most recently, as a Coordinator of the Pediatric ENT Medical School Rotation there and as an Advisory Dean at University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine. Dr. Otteson joined UH in June 2013. "We've always had a strong pediatric otolaryngology program based at Rainbow and at our sites throughout the region. Since I became Chair of the ENT Institute, I've felt we needed more clinicians. We were fortunate enough to recruit Dr. Otteson," says Dr. Megerian. "Dr. James Arnold, the former Chairman of Otolaryngology and founding Chief of Pediatric Otolaryngology and one of our more active pediatric otolaryngologists, has maintained his practice but also stepped up to become the Director of UH ENT two new pediatric otolaryngologists recently joined the uh eNt institute: (left to right) Dr. Jay Shah and Dr. todd otteson. Dr. Arnold is considered to be one of the most respected pediatric otolaryngologists in the country. He is known for his expertise in the delivery of pediatric otolaryngology services to complex patients with difficult medical conditions. His second area of expertise is thyroid disease and thyroid cancer in children. "For head and neck surgery in children with complex medical conditions and/or with difficult airway issues, he's the best," says Dr. Megerian. Working with Dr. Arnold is one of the reasons that prompted Dr. Otteson to join UH. "Two people really are the reason I am here. Jim Arnold, who is really very well respected within the pediatric otolaryngology community nationally, is the first. As a younger attending physician, I really admired him and his teaching style," says Dr. Otteson. "And Cliff Megerian is the second. He's the one who reached out and corresponded with me initially. And then once I was here I was very impressed NovEmBEr /dECEmBEr ■ mdNEWS.Com ■ MD News Cleveland/Akron/Canton | 23
