NeOMeD Celebrates 40 Years,
Dedicates New Campus buildings
N
University (NEOMED)
kicked off its 40th anniversary yearlong celebration
on October 7. At the same time, a new Research
and Graduate Education Building and The Village at
NEOMED — the University's first-ever on-campus residential
community — were dedicated.
"Forty years ago, a group of educators and elected officials —
visionaries — from different areas in Northeast Ohio collaborated
to start something unique that would help to address the shortage
of physicians in Ohio while building on the resources of universities and teaching hospitals located in the region," says Jay A,
Gershen, DDS, PhD, President of NEOMED. "We are Northeast
Ohio's medical university, preparing healthcare professionals

for this region of 4.2 million people. Everything we do is in
partnership. We collaborate with and leverage the resources of
seven universities, 24 hospitals and hundreds of other clinical
partners to train our students."
The Research and Graduate Education Building is a
$45 million, 88,000-square-foot facility which houses more than
40 of NEOMED's researchers and their teams. It is also home to
the University's growing College of Graduate Studies.
The Village at NEOMED is the culmination of a $37 million
project to construct and fully furnish three four-story buildings
with 339 single and double suites. Both projects are part of a
$160 million campus expansion that includes a Health, Wellness
and Medical Education Complex scheduled to open in fall 2014. ■
