I Nit-Occlud PDA The Nit-Occlud PDA system is used for the safe, long-term treatment of the congenital heart defect known as persistent ductus arteriosus (PDA). A spiral coil made of nitinol is inserted on the pulmonary artery side via a 4-5F implantation catheter. The coil is fed out of the catheter to achieve occlusion of the PDA, and can be repositioned prior to release to ensure proper fit. Nit-Occlud PDA provides long-term treatment of PDA. PFM Medical, located in Germany, developed the Nit-Occlud PDA. The company recently received premarket approval from the FDA for commercial sales within the United States.
