The New Man in Charge at Beth
Israel Deaconess Hospital-Milton
By Christopher Cheney
AS
PETER HEALY LOOKS ahead
to his first full year leading Beth Israel Deaconess
Hospital-Milton (BID–
Milton), he is optimistic about the prospects
for continued growth.
"We have been, for the past few years, the
fastest-growing hospital in Massachusetts,"
he says.
That growth has been fueled by the partnership with Beth Israel Deaconess Medical
Center (BIDMC). Since 2003, when the
relationship began with a clinical affiliation,
the hospital has added a new emergency
department and an MRI center. Updates to
the surgical services center included two
new operating rooms and renovations to
four others.
When the partnership with BIDMC evolved
into a corporate merger in January 2012,
Healy says BID-Milton set a target of adding 15 primary care providers to its local
affiliations. Though 10 providers have already
joined, Healy says recruiting more primary
care physicians will be a priority in 2014.
"We see more folks gearing their practices
with Milton," he says.
