Greater Boston green initiative M I N I M A L I M P A C T 05-816 from the Publisher R E E T I N G S , A N D W E L CO M E to the February issue of MD News. Our cover story this month takes a look at the latest goings on at Southcoast Health System, which recently expanded its cardiology offerings to bring state-of-the-art cardiac care close to home for patients from Providence, R.I., to Cape Cod. In interviews with Margaret Ferrell, MD, FACC, Physician-in-Chief of the Cardiovascular Care Center; Mitchel Sklar, MD, FACC, FSCAI, Medical Director of the Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory; and James Fingleton, MD, Chief of Cardiovascular Surgery, we examine what this means for referring physicians and their patients. Our special clinical section also focuses on cardiology. The clinical feature delves into the risk that childhood cancer survivors face years later in the form of treatment-related cardiotoxicity. We also report on a recent study examining the relationship of factors such as body mass index to elevated radiation exposure risk when a patient undergoes percutaneous coronary intervention. Our national feature this month evaluates the expanding role of retail medical clinics and urgent care centers. While acknowledging the value of such facilities for treatment of illnesses under certain circumstances, physicians also have concerns — such as missed opportunities for preventive care when a patient is seen by a provider who does not know his or her medical history. As always, I'd like to thank the physicians and other healthcare leaders who help make MD News a vital source of information for the region's medical industry. MD News can draw the medical community's attention to newly arriving physicians in your hospital or practice, as well as highlight advanced techniques, technologies and treatments you may be incorporating. Contact me at mjones@mdnews.com or 508-888-1502 so we can explore the opportunities. Thank you for reading, Michael Jones G Michael Jones PUBLISHER Greater Boston M J O N E S @ M D N E W S .
