Our cover story focuses on Aviv Ben-Meir, MD, FACS. Born in Israel, Dr. Ben-Meir was an infant when his parents came to the US and settled in Cleveland. A top scholar as a teenager, he was one of 10 high school stu- dents in the nation selected for CWRU's Pre-Professional Scholars Program in Medicine. Today, Dr. Ben-Meir is a fellowship- trained bariatric surgeon who has performed more than 4,000 weight loss surgeries in the past 12 years — most recently at Lake Health's new Bariatric Surgery Center, which he founded in 2013 and now directs. Our feature story also focuses on surgery … pediatric surgery. Akron Children's Hospital is one of the top 10 pediatric hospitals in the nation for surgical patient volumes. Last year alone, more than 15,000 surgeries were performed there. And the numbers continue to grow. Musculoskeletal Disease is the theme of this issue's Special Clinical Section. Here we spotlight a two-minute procedure, the Tenex Health TX, for chronic elbow pain. Orthopedic surgeon Matthew Noyes, MD, performs the procedure at Union Hospital where he was the first in mid Northeast Ohio to introduce it. In this section, we also spotlight UH Bedford Medical Center's Wound Healing & Hyperbaric Medicine Center. In each of the past two years, this wound care center has achieved a healing rate of over 91 percent in less than 30 median days.
