SPRING 2014 7 Inspira Health Network Family & Friends The staff at Inspira Imaging Center Tomlin Station is committed to providing an excellent patient experience. In some cases, that means answering questions and taking extra steps to lower anxiety. Some patients referred for magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) or computed tomography (CT) imaging express concern when they learn they may need to receive a contrast-medium injection and remain still in a scanner for a half hour or more. "We explain what to expect inside the scanner," said Joseph Oliveti Jr., MRI technologist at Inspira Imaging Center Tomlin Station. "To help, we offer a choice of music and provide a special mirrored device so they can see what's happening around them during the exam." The technologists also talk with patients via headphones when the test is underway. "We are devoted to providing an excellent experience," said Oliveti. "We treat each patient like a family member." After a test, the question usually top of mind for most patients is how long it will take to learn the results. "Our radiologists do an outstanding job of getting the test results finalized, usually within 24 hours," said Oliveti. When patients ask about the radiation exposure involved in imaging tests, Oliveti explains Tomlin Station Imaging's best practices, such as using lead aprons, reducing exposure times and employing collimation, a technology developed to obtain the highest quality images possible with the least amount of radiation exposure. "We understand patients may not always feel well when they arrive," said Oliveti. "We are devoted to easing the process for them."
