The HealthAlliance Foundation is pleased to announce the success of the 25th Annual Tulip Ball. With 430 people in attendance, the event raised $185,000 for HealthAlliance Hospitals' patient care services and programs. "The HealthAlliance Foundation would like to thank all sponsors and individuals for attending this annual fundraising event and give special congratulations to all of this year's honorees and their families," says Steffen T. Kraehmer, Executive Director of the HealthAlliance Foundation. The event took place April 26 at the Lazy Swan Golf and Country Club Village in Saugerties, New York. This year's HealthAlliance honorees were Ali Hammoud, MD, and Joseph Christiana, MD. Both are well known cardiologists who have practiced in the area for more than 10 years. Additionally, the Lifetime Achievement Award was presented to Kathleen and Ozzie Beichert, and the Community Service Award was pre - sented to Ellen O'Leary and Thomas Murphy. Emergency Medical Associates (EMA), Parsippany, New Jersey, recently partnered with HealthAlliance of the Hudson Valley's Broadway Campus to develop a program to provide an "autism-friendly" experience in the Emergency Department. The program uses iPads with autism- specific apps that help staff communicate with patients with autism and verbally impaired patients. The devices help medical providers learn the reason why the patient has arrived for care, the patient's pain and discomfort level, and his or her communication preferenc - es. It also enables staff to better explain what the patient can expect during his or her visit to alleviate fear and confusion. Sensory boxes provide objects with a variety of textures to enable autistic patients to self-soothe and bet - ter deal with stress. ABRET is the credentialing board for EEG, Evoked Potential, Long Term Monitoring, and Neurophysiologic Intraoperative Monitoring Technologists. ABRET was organized in 1964 through a joint effort by the American Society of Electroencephalographic Technologists (ASET) and the American Clinical Neurophysiology Society (formerly American EEG Society). The Laboratory Accreditation Board was founded in 2004.
