With this single-bedded unit, Med/Surg 2 will help eliminate patient fl ow issues due to gender and infection control issues, as well as facilitate improved patient care and provide greater privacy. Putnam Hospital Center (PHC) Chairman of the Board of Directors Keiren M. Farquhar and PHC President and CEO Donna M. McGregor (fi fth and sixth from left) offi cially cut the ribbon on the new Med/Surg 2 cardiovascular post care unit. On hand for the recent ceremony, from left to right, are Putnam County Executive Paul Eldridge, Town of Carmel Supervisor Ken Schmidt, PHC President of the Medical Staff Janusz Rudnicki, M.D., Putnam County Sheriff Don Smith, and PHC Director of Cardiology Services Janet Schwartz. A ribbon-cutting ceremony celebrating the total renovation and enhancement of Med/Surg 2 as a cardiovascular/postcare unit at Putnam Hospital Center (PHC) was held on April 26. After much planning and preparation, PHC’s Med/Surg 2 is now able to offer pa- tients state-of-the-art telemetry services in its 23 new, private patient rooms with full bathroom facilities. The telemetry/postcare unit is the busi- est unit in the hospital, accepting patients from the intensive care unit, emergency department and other medical/surgi- cal fl oors requiring cardiac monitoring and increased nursing observation and intervention. This new unit increases the 22 | Mid Hudson MD NEWS  MDNEWS.COM Dr. J. Keith Festa, Eleanor M. Herman, R.N., Joan E. Mandy, R.N., and Catherine and E. Richard O’Shea. The Franciscan Award, the highest honor Saint Francis Hospital and Health Centers in Poughkeepsie bestows on individuals, was presented April 30 to Eleanor M. Her- man, R.N.; Joan E. Mandy, R.N.; E. Richard and Catherine O’Shea; and J. Keith Festa, M.D., at The Grandview in Poughkeepsie. Herman is a 1954 graduate and Mandy, a 1953 graduate of the Saint Francis Hospital School of Nursing. Both had long careers as school nurse teachers and remain active in the hospital auxiliary. Together, the O’Sheas have devoted 40 years to Saint Francis Hospital. Starting as a volunteer, Catherine has been employed in the pastoral care department since 1985. E. Richard has been a hospital trustee since 1995. Dr. Festa was born at Saint Francis Hospital and raised in Marlboro, where he opened a private practice. He is the hospi- tal’s Vice President Medical Affairs/Chief Medical Offi cer.
