++++++++++++++++++++++++ + + + +++++++++++++++++++++++++  PHYSICAL THERAPY ++ + ++ + New Physical Therapy Facility Increases Treatment Options need, the practice of physical therapy has grown and changed as technology and health care needs are evolved. Exciting advances in medicine and improved tech- nology are saving more lives, allowing the overall population to live longer and preserve and restore more function than ever before. Bodyworx Physical Therapy in Wichita IN stays at the forefront of physical therapy care by delivering the latest treatment modalities in a new, specialized facility. The move was motivated by the desire to meet the growing need within the community. The new facility, which is located at 7015 E. Central, opened March 14 and was specially designed to maximize the space to accommodate new equipment and provide a new personal training area. “The new offi ce has 2,300 square feet of space. In addition to adding more private treatment rooms, this allows us to add more treatment options and increases the space available for personal training. This is in keeping with the increased demand as physical therapy is recognized as an equally valuable tool in preventing injury Physical therapist Cody Barnett performs an 830 nm laser treatment on a patient with plantar fascitis. The most recent and exciting additions to the offi ce are VO2 max testing and isokinetic strength testing. “This is something that is particularly benefi cial to athletes and those in train- ing,” says Barnett. “The VO2 max is generally considered the best indicator of cardiorespiratory endurance and aerobic fi tness. It measures the point at which oxygen consumption levels out, defi ning the VO2 max or an individual’s maximal aerobic capacity. However, it is also useful as an indicator of a person’s aerobic potential or upper limit and predictor of success in endurance events. This allows a person to train in a certain range to increase that endurance level.” Isokinetic strength testing is performed with a specialized apparatus that provides variable resistance so that no matter how much effort is exerted, the movement is conducted at a constant speed. The advantages of the testing are considerable; nearly any joint action can be thoroughly tested whether for injury assessment, performance enhancement, or the pre- vention of injury. However, the equipment MEDICINE, AS IN life, there is a need to be mobile and progressive to stay healthy. Addressing this The concept of “Moving Forward – Physical Therapy Brings Motion to Life” is emphasized with the placement of a vintage bicycle hanging from the ceiling in the patient waiting area. for testing is expensive and not generally available to most everyday athletes. “It is very exciting to be able to provide this locally. It will be very benefi cial in keeping people active longer and will help to prevent injury,” Barnett says. Physical therapists are becoming increasingly involved in such areas as supervised physical training for the prevention or aggravation of injuries. This is benefi cial across all ages but is increasingly utilized for safe and active aging through prevention, mitigation of health conditions and rehabilitation after disease or injury in the growing population of older adults who are actively aging and living with chronic conditions. “Our new location allows us the space to have a well-rounded training facility and offer personal training to maximize the benefi ts of the workout while assuring it is done in the safest possible way,” Barnett explains. Recent additions also include a Wii Fit Plus and Wii Sports to aid in visualization when working on balance issues. “We work hard at incorporating tools that can be of benefit to our patients. Sometimes those tools are high-tech and complex. When we can incorporate something that is viewed as fun, that only improves the overall experience and recovery process, assisting in improving/ restoring movement and reducing pain.” For more information, please call ( 3 1 6 ) 5 5 8 - 8 8 0 8 o r v i s i t www.BodyworxPhysicalTherapy.net. n MDNEWS.COM  MD NEWS Greater Kansas | 5
