SCOT T F I T ZGERALD ONCE quipped, “There are no second acts in American lives.” While the accuracy of that quote may be debated, there are second chapters in people’s lives, and Robert Shepard, founder of Shepard Construction & Development, is writing that second chapter for his con- struction career right now. Shepard has more than 30 years of con- struction experience, 26 of them with Modern Continental Enterprises, one of the country’s most prominent commercial construction firms. He worked on projects as diverse as a 594-unit Caribbean resort to a 14-story, 370,000-square-foot landmark office building in Boston, Independence Wharf. Shepard has extensive experience in all phases of real estate acquisition, development, construction and property management. He was involved in more than 750 property transactions valued at more than $950 million and managed more than 1 million square feet of residential, retail and commercial office property. Now, Shepard is realigning his career and focus- ing on custom, single-family residences, small office buildings and small retail projects located near the South Shore and his offices in Hingham. Shepard Construction & Development now excels at smaller, more detail-intensive projects. A recent project in Scituate is a great example of the type of residential work the firm undertakes.
