SENATOR AL FRANKEN TOURS MERCY HOSPITAL Focus on Mental Health, Accountable Care Organizations Senator Al Franken (D-Minn.) toured Mer- Crystal Medical Center cy Hospital to learn about efforts to improve care for mental health conditions, one of Senator Franken’s key policy initiatives, and to discuss accountable care organizations. During the visit, Senator Franken met with Tom O’Connor, President of Mercy Hospital, Lori Wightman, President of Uni- ty Hospital, Paul Goering, M.D., Vice President of Allina Mental Health Services, and other hospi- tal leaders. “As a member of the Senate’s Health, Educa- tion, Labor and Pensions Committee, I’ve worked to institute value based reimburse- ment for Medicare services,” says Senator Franken. “During the debate on health reform, I fought to include a ‘value index’ to reward Minnesota doctors for providing high- quality care at a reasonable cost. I’m pleased to see that Allina is working so diligently to move to this payment model, which will improve the care it delivers under Medicare while reducing the cost to our nation’s taxpayers.” n 18 | Twin Cities MD NEWS MDNEWS.COM
