Our cover story features the Franciscan Companies and their mission to keep Central New York healthy. Franciscan Companies works with St. Joseph's Hospital Health Center and multiple other partners in the region to help patients with complex health conditions live safely at home. These partnerships benefit hospitals and health systems eager to improve the population's health and cut readmission rates. One such program is a joint venture with St. Joseph's for telemonitoring patients with COPD. Supervised by physicians affiliated with St. Joseph's, a team of nurses follows certain metrics to track patients' progress in real time and communicate with a physician if worrisome conditions occur. This issue, we welcome guest contributor Eileen Brophy, Owner of Brophy Services. Eileen delves into the importance of green technology and cutting-edge standards as they relate to the cleaning of medical offices. We also welcome back our Health Care Architecture experts from Chianis + Anderson. The firm has a compelling column this issue on code requirements and health regulations. Very few of us know or understand the level of detail and experience necessary to make sure our offices are patient-safe and meeting all modern codes. In this issue, we find our EHR and meaningful use expert, John Netti, examining CMS rules and regulations as 2014 begins to wind down.
