I am honored to have been selected as Duke Raleigh Hospital's new president, and I am excited for the opportunity to lead such a strong team. Over the last several years, I have worked closely with Duke Raleigh leadership, providers and sta•. I've been continually impressed at the dedication and talent that exists at Duke Raleigh. I look forward to assuming this new role and helping further develop and grow Duke Raleigh as the centerpiece of Duke Medicine in Wake County. Duke Raleigh is an outstanding community resource, one that o•ers an impressive array of specialty services that Wake County residents can't receive elsewhere in the community. One of my main goals will be to continue expanding the highest quality clinical services at Duke Raleigh so our community can receive exceptional care close to home and expect the best outcomes. Our team aspires to provide not only the best care for the residents of North Carolina, but also the best experience for patients and their families. That kind of great care comes from a deep understanding of patient and family needs our team has developed. For me, having practiced for 15 years in the fields of pulmonary and critical care medicine, I've spent countless hours with patients and families. Those experiences have given me a unique perspective as a healthcare administrator—an understanding of the values of individuals, having cared for them as they face life and death situations. Especially in times of change, as we're trying to transform the healthcare delivery system, I believe that this perspective as a physi- cian leader will be critical in helping lead Duke Raleigh. My family and I have lived in the Triangle since 2001, residing in Chapel Hill while my two sons play soccer for multiple clubs in Raleigh. We've just sold our house in Chapel Hill and look forward to moving to Raleigh permanently so we can become even more engaged in all aspects of the community. I look forward to getting to know all members of the Duke Raleigh team as we embark on this journey together. Please do not hesitate to reach out to me with any ideas about how we can better meet the needs of the patients and families that we serve. Sincerely, David W.
