Established in June 2004, the Center works with families before and after adoption to encourage the healthy growth of the entire family. The center provides services for domestic, international and special needs adop- tions, and supports families throughout the whole process. A mong the ser v ices of fered, the center provides medical, developmental and psychological assessments. During the pre-adoption process, the center will evaluate written records, photos and videos of the children being considered for adoption to help parents prepare for their child's expected needs. After adoption, the center will perform an initial medical evaluation to identify any potential health problems and make recommendations for ongoing care in conjunction with the child's primary care physician. The Oak Adoptive Health Center was established through a donation f rom Jim and Vanita Oelschlager, who have an adopted grandchild. Akron Children's is among a handf ul of pediatric hospitals that provide adoptive health services.
