+++++++++++++++++++++++++ + + +++++++++++++++++++++++++ HOSPITAL ROUNDS +++ +++ WHAT'S NEW AT AREA HOSPITALS Akron Children's Hospital installed a MAGNE- TOM Skyra 3 Tesla (3T) open bore MRI in July. Made by Siemens Healthcare, the new MRI has the most powerful magnet available for clinical use and will be especially useful in perform- ing functional neurologic and musculoskeletal studies. The Skyra 3T has also been designed for patient comfort. It can hold patients who weigh up to 550 pounds, and its open bore — short length — design makes it a good option for patients who are claustrophobic. Akron Children's 3T MRI is the fi rst and currently the only 3T MRI available in Akron. Akron General Health System, in partnership with the City of Akron, recently installed 11 helpful and healthful signs along the city's popular downtown area Towpath walking trail. The signs, which measure 11" x 17", offer exercise tips along with directions to the near- est exit roads. For example, the sign on the trail near Dart Avenue reads, "Begin a walking routine with a 5-minute warm-up, gradually increasing heart rate and blood fl ow. Your nearest cross street is Dart Avenue." All signs also remind those traversing the trail to call 9-1-1 in an emergency. Alliance Community Hospital (ACH) earned 'excellent' ratings from Consumer Reports Health in the following categories: Nurse/ Patient Communication, Room Cleanliness, and Blood Stream Infections. The ratings were based on data gathered from public sources, such as the federal government's Hospital Compare website, for 1119 hospitals nation- wide. Ranked on a scale of 1 to 5, hospitals with the best-performing hospitals earning a 5. ACH was the only hospital in the Akron/Can- ton area to earn a 5 for its low blood stream infection rates. To see a list of hospital ratings, visit www.ConsumerReportsHealth.org. Aultman Health Foundation and Dunlap Com- munity Hospital plan to partner. Offi cials of the Orrville Hospital Foundation and Aultman Health Foundation have signed a letter of intent that would make Dunlap a subsidiary of the Canton-based health care system. The arrangement means Dunlap will remain a not- for-profi t, community hospital in Orrville with a local voice. The fi nal agreement is expected to be completed this fall, after further details are completed by both Dunlap and Aultman, and the proposed arrangement is submitted to the state of Ohio. Cleveland Clinic is collaborating with InnoCen- tive to present a series of challenges designed to advance patient care and biomedical re- search. InnoCentive collaborates with organiza- tions to solve problems and discover solutions by connecting them with the world's largest and most diverse community of innovators and problem solvers. The Cleveland Clinic Medical Innovation Pavilion went live on InnoCentive's website in July, offering a series of problems that, when solved, will have a substantial impact on medical research. Individuals who submit winning solutions will earn monetary awards. Lake Health has received the Get With The Guidelines Heart Failure Silver Quality Achievement Award from the American Heart Association (AHA). The recognition signifi es that Lake Health has reached an aggressive goal of treating heart failure patients to core standard levels of care outlined by the AHA and the American College of Cardiology. Get With The Guidelines is a quality improvement initia- tive that provides hospital staff with tools that follow proven evidence-based guidelines and procedures in caring for heart failure patients to prevent future hospitalizations. Mercy Medical Center has taken the initiative to publish cancer quality data in an understand- able format on its website for the public to view. The fi rst published is breast cancer quality data, including information about mammogra- phy MQSA certifi cation, 5-year breast cancer survival rate, percentage of early stage breast cancer, minimally invasive breast biopsy, breast conservation surgery and radiation treatment with breast conservation surgery. In the coming months, quality data for other cancer diagnoses will be published on Mercy's website. See Page 54
