Before courting potential candidates, clearly define key components of each position, including compensation and job description. 2. Build a relationship. Establish clear, informative communication early on. Promptly pursue candidates with a phone call, and schedule interviews as soon as possible. 3. Keep candidates informed. Let potential employees know exactly what to expect throughout the recruitment process. Share details such as whether casual or more formal dress is appropri- ate for a dinner meeting, as well as plans for transporting the candidate to the gathering. 4. Recap key points. At the end of the interview, review details such as benefits and compensation. This is also an opportunity to discuss the time frame of the selection process. 5. Follow up and act as a resource. Once you have found the optimal fit for the position, stay in regular contact to offer support as your new provider transitions to a possibly unfamiliar community and place of business. Offer guidance as he or she makes transi- tions such as securing a state license and fi nding housing. ■ Five Tips to Attract Top Talent By Katy Mena-Berkley 1 8 | San Antonio MD NEWS ■ M D N E W S .
