THE ONGOING SERIES will continue into 2015,
covering a variety of topics related to the spine, including
low-back pain, neck pain, sciatica and weakness.
"A tremendous amount of information is widely
available to people through the Internet and other
resources," Dr. Suratwala said. "My role as physician is
to educate and guide patients, and this spine lecture
series gives people access to reliable health information
and a relaxed environment for asking questions."
During a typical lecture, the physician will go over
common symptoms as well as treatment options. Since
no two cases of back pain are alike, Dr. Suratwala will
also discuss how care can be tailored to the individual.
Bringing Expertise Closer
Dr. Suratwala has been encouraged by participant
feedback and hopes to expand the series in the future.
"I urge residents to lean on the health resources the
North Shore-LIJ Health System provides," Dr. Suratwala
said. "We're also open to bringing this series to a variety
of locations, if schools or libraries are interested in
hosting us."
