LiveWell | Winter 2015
At the Children's Hospital of San Antonio, the first phase of a complete Emergency
Department (ED) renovation is scheduled for February 2015. Designed specifically to cater
to families, the ED is now home to 28 new private rooms, with more space and a simple
color-coded system to make navigation easy.
Upon final completion in fall 2015, the ED will be three times the size of the original
facility, with 52 beds and more than 30,000 square feet of space.
REACHING NEW LEVELS
Family-friendly design and color-coding continue across three renovated floors at the
Children's Hospital of San Antonio.
Floor eight is now home to the inpatient unit of the Cancer and Blood Disorders Center;
floor nine houses the inpatient unit of the Physical Rehabilitation Center; and leading-edge
pediatric surgical suites populate floors 10 and 11.
A NEW FREESTANDING EMERGENCY CENTER IN WESTOVER
Construction is also underway on a new 9000-square-feet freestanding Emergency Center
at the CHRISTUS Santa Rosa – Westover Hills campus.
Designed to meet the unique needs of young patients in the Westover Hills and
northwestern San Antonio area, this new Emergency Center will offer the same high-quality
emergent care already available at the Children's Hospital of San Antonio. The new Children's
Hospital San Antonio Emergency Center – Westover Hills, scheduled to open this spring, will
house 10 exam rooms in addition to a specialized trauma room.
