Our cover story focuses on the new face of hospitalist medicine in general and Inpatient Medical Services (IMS) in particular. Headquartered in Akron, Ohio, IMS is a regional provider of 24/7 hospitalist and post-acute care physician services, including transitional and complex care management. Founded in Akron 18 years ago, IMS now serves more than 2,000 physicians and 40 healthcare facilities in Ohio and surrounding states. Cleveland Clinic Children's is featured in our Hospital Spotlight. When the Clinic's Pediatric Heart Center opened in 1995, the intention was to build a team of subspecialists to rival all others. Today, this team includes 15 pediatric cardiologists and 2 pediatric heart surgeons who, in 2013 alone, registered more than 28,000 outpa- tient visits, 520 heart related catheterizations and 350 cardiothoracic surgeries. Orthopedics is the theme of our Special Clinical Section. Anchoring it is an article by Drs. Aaron Chokan and Duane Ehredt about treating end stage ankle arthritis.
