A recently study published in The American Journal of Clinical Nutrition demonstrated an 11% lower risk of breast cancer in those women who incorporate the highest amounts of fiber into their diets as compared to those women whose diets include the least amount of fiber. The study, conducted by Soochow University in Suzhou, China, took stock of the data from 10 previous studies, specifi cally seeking out data from studies that concen- trated on women's diets and the participants' cancer risk for at least 7 years and up to 18 years. The 712,195 women in the collected investigations, 16,848 — 2.4% — developed breast cancer during the observed period. The data demonstrated that women who developed breast cancer represented the bottom fifth of the total group for fiber consumption, while the top fi fth segment were 11% less likely to receive a breast cancer diagnosis. The study concluded that the link in a decreased risk was less a connection solely between fi ber and breast cancer, but a link between overall healthy habits, such as eating fi ber, and a lowered risk of breast cancer. n ADVERTISERS' INDEX Crutchfi eld Dermatology........
