Cancer is one of two clinical themes for November-December. In our Cover Story, we spotlight clinical cancer geneticist Charis Eng, MD, PhD, whose paradigm-shifting research has changed the understanding of cancer. Since joining Cleveland Clinic in 2005, the woman whose research was once considered too "out there" to obtain NIH funding, has won more than 70 research grants and awards totaling over $20 million for her cutting edge studies of human cancer genomics. In our Cancer Special Section are articles — all from local physicians — about identifying cancer risk, liver cancer, gynecologic cancer, PET/MR (it's new and it's here), and cancer in older adults (to treat or not to treat, that's the question). Caring for older adults is the theme of our second clinical section. Here you'll fi nd articles about geriatric urology, treating chronic wounds, rheumatoid arthritis, rehabilitation, post-acute services in the home, and Care Consultation — an empowerment intervention for older adults. On the opposite end of the age spectrum, pediatrics (specifi cally, pediatric orthopaedics) is the topic of our Special Feature. Every year, close to 12,000 children with musculoskeletal problems visit UH Rainbow Babies and Children's Hospital. Their 10 fellowship-trained pediatric orthopaedic special- ists treat everything under the sun or, as they say, 'under the rainbow' — the eternal symbol of promise. Speaking of promises, MetroHealth is celebrating 175 years of a promise kept — to offer healthcare services to all, regardless of ability to pay. And they've done it with an impressive staff of physicians, one of which actually won the Nobel Prize in Medicine. Read all about it in our Hospital Spotlight.
