Welcome to the March/April digital edition of the industry magazine about, from and for physicians: MD News. A problem that touches on both senior health and the practice of medicine in the general population is the abuse of opioid pain relievers. One of our national features describes new, abuse-deterrent formulations — and their drawbacks. Our second national feature turns to digital medicine, in the form of crowdsourcing techniques with which providers pool the diagnostic wisdom of peers and others. The increasing number of seniors has created demand for new care models from providers. Whether preventing falls or managing multiple chronic conditions, physicians are rising to the challenge. In one of our special clinical sections, we examine ways some experts are recalibrating treatment for seniors, such as the implementation of geriatric ERs. We also look at nuanced diabetes manage- ment. And our Data Vault offers a statistical snapshot of geriatrics today. Our second clinical section is devoted to men's health. We investigate a timely concern: Fragility fractures are increasing among older men, yet these patients are not often screened for bone density or provided with the most appropriate medications to fight bone loss. Orthopedic specialists delve into the problem. We also look at new research into factors that may cause prostate cancer recurrence. And we provide a roundup of recent news about men's health. I hope you find our bimonthly digital edition informa- tive and useful, and I invite you to follow us on Facebook and Twitter.
