The Great Sperry Eight Alicia Sperry, 33, knows a thing or two — or eight — about utilizing maternity services. Evangeline Sperry, born in March 2011, and her seven siblings have provided their mom with a wealth of maternity experience. Alicia said she and her husband always planned to have a big family, too. When MaternityCare opened at South Jersey Healthcare Elmer Hospital, Alicia decided to follow certified nurse midwife Karen Shields, M.S.N., from South Jersey Healthcare in Bridgeton and delivered her youngest four children there. "The main reason I chose Elmer was because of the close relationship my family and I have with Karen— and Elmer is just such a nice facility," Alicia said. "Th e home-like labor and delivery suites are so comfortable, and the staff is kind and professional." Since Alicia prefers natural deliveries without intervention, Karen suggested she deliver her children in the birthing tub available at SJH Elmer Hospital to help reduce pain. "They were very supportive of my choice to have natural births," Alicia said. "Karen encouraged me to try the birthing tub, and my husband and I couldn't have been more pleased with the care our family received. I've had four very pleasant experiences at Elmer and built a relationship that will last a lifetime." TO TOUR ELMER MATERNITYCARE, CALL (888) SJH-WOMAN OR VISIT www.SJHealthcare.net/FandF. South Jersey Healthcare Elmer Hospital's MaternityCare features five private labor and delivery rooms. Four are equipped with whirlpool tubs and the fifth has a birthing tub.
