This spring issue of Advancing Pediatrics provides a look at how our team puts this commitment and dedication to practice. A terrific example of our dedication to improve care is a clinical trial that is underway to evaluate the success of a new transplant procedure in children with sickle cell disease. Our Sickle Cell Disease Program is one of the largest in the region, seeing more than 1,400 patients annually. Children's National is currently recruiting participants for a clinical trial that will evaluate the success of a new transplant procedure. Researchers hope this trial will lead to an increase in the number of eligible donors and ultimately create a greater chance of cure for sickle cell patients. At Children's National, we're known for combining the best technical know-how with a deep understanding of the practical and emotional needs of the children we treat. For orthopaedic patients, our treatment for leg length discrepancy is aiding needed limb growth while reducing the use of traditional external devices and the complications o en associated with them. The results speak for themselves: happier patients, better compliance, and great outcomes. To learn more about these and other new programs and innovations at Children's National, I encourage you to join us at our 17th annual Future of Pediatrics Conference on June 9 and 10. The program includes two full days of CME presentations focused on improving care. Please also be sure to attend the Children's National Annual Medical Staff Dinner at the end of day two. Registration information for the program and dinner are included on the back cover. As always, I'm happy to report the news from Children's National. The patients we share drive our determination to keep improving and be the best destination for care. With continued thanks for your trust in Children's National, Kurt Newman, MD CARDIOLOGY Cardiologists and researchers are helping address short- and long- term health concerns related to lipids.
