Our cover story focuses on Frank Douglas, MD, PhD, president/CEO of the Austen BioInnovation Institute in Akron (ABIA). Last year, we ran an article about Dr. Douglas after he received the 2010 "Rock Star of Science" award, one of 17 given nationally by the Geoffrey Beene Foundation and GQ Magazine. Akron General Health System is also boasting something new — a partner- ship with Signet Development, Ltd. The new joint venture, named Integrated Wellness Partners, is taking Akron General's award-winning Health & Wellness Center model to other hospitals across the country. Chronic disease is the theme of our Special Clinical Section. Here you'll find articles written by local physicians on diagnosing and treating heart disease, infertility, wounds, urologic and gynecologic disorders and other common health issues. Leading off our business section is a two-page spread about healthcare quality improvement, followed by advice from local experts in law, accounting and financial planning.
