CLEVELAND CLINIC
Joins White House Discussion on Energy Efficiency
a national building challenge discussion on making U.S. buildings more energy efficient. Cleveland Clinic CEO Toby Cosgrove,
C
M.D., and other CEOs, mayors, university presidents and labor leaders met with President Barack Obama and former President Bill Clinton. The discussion was part of the $4 billion Better Building Challenge, which is geared toward engag- ing the community and corporate partners on enhancing their energy footprint for the long-term. Cleveland Clinic was invited to the
White House because of its role as an early adopter of energy efficiency measures in healthcare. The Clinic's commitment to energy efficiency has led to a 20 percent and $20 million reduction in energy usage over the past four years. Efforts have included the use of more
than 60,000 LED energy efficient light bulbs throughout the health system. In addition, solar panels have been installed on buildings. A Cleveland Clinic depart- ment has also been dedicated to sustainable practices. ■
