These partnerships are designed to encourage collabora- tive efforts in medical education and research in order to improve the quality of care to patients. "The College of Medicine's primary
goal is educating patient-centered physicians oriented to the practice of medicine at the community level, and, in support of this focus, we look for clinical teaching opportunities for our students within excellent community teaching hospitals," said Jeffrey L. Susman, MD, dean for the College of Medicine at NEOMED. "The affiliation between Southwest
General and NEOMED allows medi- cal students to work with skilled physicians in a community hospital setting," stated Marilyn McNamara, MD, vice president of medical affairs at Southwest General. "It is an excellent opportunity for students to experience where the majority of health care is delivered in the country — the com- munity hospital."
