welloneconnection 7 The Roaring 20s Meet Papa Luigi The annual Papa Luigi fundraiser on March 7 was a roaring success as the community came together to support the continued improvement of medical care at Huron Regional Medical Center through education. Spotlight on the Cause During his life, Dr. Hohm was a devoted physician and major advocate for making high-quality health care available to all residents of Beadle County. The fund named after him is a testament to his work. A Work in Progress "Proceeds from the Dr. Paul and Carol Hohm Healthcare Scholarship Endowment Fund have the potential to affect the lives of all of us," says Paul Rann, executive director of the HRMC Foundation. "Once the fund generates enough investment income, we will be able to provide scholarships to current and future medical professionals, giving the people who provide care here an opportunity to continue learning and improving. It will also attract more physicians and providers to the area due to the financial support we can offer them." Our work to meet that goal is still in progress. This year's Papa Luigi event was not the first fundraiser for the Dr. Paul and Carol Hohm Healthcare Scholarship Endowment Fund, and we will continue to grow the fund as recruitment needs will be ongoing. "We are very close to reaching our goal and being able to award scholarships," Rann says. "Well One Connection readers could actually push us over the edge." In 2007, the Huron Regional Medical Center board of directors established the Dr. Paul and Carol Hohm Healthcare Scholarship Endowment Fund in honor of the family's dedication to promoting community wellness. The fun-filled evening featured food, games, ragtime entertainment and Great Gatsby style as Huron came together for a good cause. "Once again, the community showed how dedicated it is to preserving the high quality of health care here in Huron," says Paul Rann, executive director of the HRMC Foundation. "Together, we raised more than $45,000 for the Dr. Paul and Carol Hohm Healthcare Scholarship Endowment Fund."
