It has been more than two years since Longmont United Hospital began exploring a partnership with a larger health system. This proactive approach is in response to a rapidly changing healthcare environment where significant investments and scale are required to stay true to our overarching goal. Our objective is simple—to always provide the best quality care and to continue to grow to meet the healthcare needs of our patients and the communities we serve. Sharing similar missions for improving the health of our respective communities, LUH and Centura Health entered a formal affiliation agreement last November. Now, after working to fulfill the various contingencies and necessary regulatory approvals, we expect to close the affiliation within the next month or so. When we chose to partner with Centura Health, we knew that we had selected a partner that was best positioned to help us meet our goals now and into the future. Centura Health has a proven record of successfully partnering with community-based hospitals and provides expertise in quality improvement, patient safety and through shared services in critically important areas such as finance, information technology and supply chain management. Fundamental changes in how healthcare will be provided in the future focus on lowering cost, improving quality and delivering better long-term outcomes for patients and payers of healthcare services. In this new environment, LUH will be working closely with its medical staff to continually improve all aspects of the continuum of care while relentlessly looking at ways to be more efficient and cost- effective. The merger with Centura Health will enable us to address these challenges with the full backing, expertise and resources of a statewide system. As we move forward in this time of change, LUH remains committed to our mission of improving the health of our patients and communities we serve—and to do so in a safe, healing and nurturing environment. Sincerely, Mitchell C. Carson President and CEO Longmont United Hospital A MESSAGE FROM OUR President and CEO THE COST OF PRESCRIPTION DRUGS is expected to continue increasing by 10 percent or more each year. At LUH, we've made it our mission to help keep those costs down as much as possible today and in the future. All medications prescribed at LUH are selected by the multidisciplinary Pharmacy & Therapeutics Committee. This group includes clinical pharmacists, anesthesiologists, emergency medicine physicians, surgeons, nurses, quality control representatives and other experts. AT LONGMONT UNITED HOSPITAL, OUR DOCTORS AND PHARMACISTS WORK TOGETHER TO MAKE SURE THE RIGHT MEDICATIONS ARE AVAILABLE TO OUR PATIENTS AT THE BEST POSSIBLE PRICE.
