And that's a concern because a growing number of experts say people should limit sugar and sug- ary drinks to prevent weight gain, diabetes, heart disease and other health risks. The Bexar Healthy Beverage Coalition has released a new campaign that aims to make it easier for local families to find out how much sugar they are consuming and to pick healthier alternatives. "Is Your Drink Sugar-Packed?" includes videos, posters and educational materials in both English and Spanish, available online at www.sugar-packed.com. The website also includes an easy-to-use sugar calculator that can tell how much sugar is in com- monly consumed sugary beverages and how much is being consumed over time. The good news is that the number of Bexar County adults drinking one or more soft drinks per day declined between 2010 and 2012. The purpose of this campaign is to build on this by informing the public so they can make healthier drink choices. Here's how physicians can help: + Visit w w w.sugar-packed.com and download the available videos, posters and educational material for use in your office.
