Introduces Two Revolutionary Technologies to Kansas Physicians The da Vinci Xi Surgical System provides surgeons with greater access, vision and precision for more complex cases. The Varian Edge Radiosurgery System uses a non-invasive beam to ablate tumors with sub-millimeter, end-to-end surgical precision. Wesley Medical Center T HE VARIAN EDGE Radiosurgery System and the da Vinci Xi Surgical System keep Kansas physicians at the forefront of medical technologies that are improving patient outcomes across the nation. Wesley Medical Center continues to invest in technologies that deliver new options for physicians and better outcomes for patients. The latest additions include the enhanced accuracy of the Varian Edge Radiosurgery System and the fourth-generation da Vinci Xi Surgical System featuring enhanced access, movement and precision for surgeons. The Edge stereotactic radiosurgery system creates new opportunities to reach tumors without an incision, and Wesley is the first and only hospital in Southeast Kansas to have it. The Edge's non-invasive beam ablates tumors, including deep-seated tumors in the brain and spine, with sub-millimeter, end-to-end surgical precision. This technology is the latest addition to Wesley's comprehensive range of radiation oncology services, providing physicians in Wichita and throughout Kansas with a new, minimally invasive treatment option for patients. Wesley is investing more than $4 million in the technology, software and facility upgrades necessary to provide advanced cancer treatment options here in Kansas. In addition, Wesley provides a full range of traditional linear accelerator and brachytherapy services. With two linear accelerators on campus, Wesley combines top-notch skill and technology with convenience. Providers are able to customize treatments to patients' schedules. The fourth-generation da Vinci Xi Surgical System provides access to patients from virtually any position and features redesigned arms and tools for greater movement and more accurate targeting, as well as advanced software for smooth and natural movement. The first thing most surgeons will notice is the da Vinci Xi surgical cart can be placed at any position around the patient — allowing for four-quadrant access and a wider range of procedures. The robotic system also introduces a laser-targeting system that improves the accuracy of patient positioning. Thinner arms provide long reach for more flexible port placement, and EndoWrist Instrumentation bends and rotates far beyond the capabilities of the human hand. Advanced tremor filtration and Intuitive motion technologies allow the surgeon to operate with steady, natural motion and accuracy. Once in command, surgeons will appreciate the ergonomically adjustable console that makes performing surgery with the da Vinci Surgical System feel comfortable from the first procedure of the day to the last. Wesley now offers four da Vinci Surgical Systems and has performed more than 5,000 da Vinci surgeries. Three da Vinci systems are available at Wesley Medical Center, and one is located at Galichia Heart Hospital. These systems provide surgeons with excellent scheduling and location flexibility for routine procedures, as well as the superior precision and access needed for complex cases. For more information about any of the advanced technologies available at Wesley, please contact Physician Relations Manager Brett McMahon at 316-962-2161. ■ 1 6 | Greater Kansas MD NEWS ■ M D N E W S .
