system translates the surgeon's hand and finger movements into infinitely more precise movements of the robot's arms and endowrists placed inside the body through very small incisions. Tipped with tiny surgical instruments, the endowrists are highly maneuverable with a range of motion of nearly 360 degrees, improving the surgeon's laparoscopic dexterity. Visualization of the surgical field is of utmost importance to the surgeon and OR team, and the da Vinci Si system's video capabilities are unsurpassed. In the con- trol console, the surgeon's monitor boasts 1080i HD resolution and magnification of up to 10x. In the OR, widescreen LED 3D HD monitors facilitate visualization for the OR team. An advanced TilePro multi-input display also enables the sur- geon and his or her team to view the 3D video of the operative field along with up to two additional video sources, such as ultrasound and EKG. Of course, the greatest benefits of robot-assisted surgery are to the patient: much smaller incisions which results in minimal scarring, significantly less blood loss and post-operative pain, a shorter hospital stay and faster recovery. "With the features of the da Vinci Si System, we believe we can provide the best possible clinical outcomes," Surgical robots take minimally invasive surgery to a new level. Guided by the surgeon from a control console in the operating room, the robotic system translates the surgeon's hand and finger movements into infinitely more precise movements of the robot's arms and endowrists which are tipped with tiny surgical instruments. The advantage is much smaller incisions which results in minimal scarring, significantly less blood loss and post-operative pain, a shorter hospital stay and faster recovery. Dr. Carson says. "It is safe (the da Vinci Si performs over one million safety checks per second) and reliable, and can be uti- lized in a number of surgical disciplines." Comprehensive Robotic Services At Parma Hospital, the da Vinci Surgical Platform is currently being utilized for + bariatric (weight loss) surgery, includ- ing RNY ga s t r ic bypa s s and sleeve gastrectomy; + gynecologic surgery, including hyster- ectomy, myomectomy and excision of fibroid tumors; + thor a c ic surger y, inc luding lobectomy; and + urologic surgery, including pyeloplasty, prostatectomy and partial nephrectomy. "The level of comprehensive robotic services that we are providing through Parma Hospital's Center for Minimally Invasive and Robotic Surgery is rare for a community hospital," says Dr. Wong. "Our goal was to make these services readily accessible — closer to home — in a more personalized set- ting. And I think we have done that."
