Kitchen Space: The heart of the home is the kitchen, and that presence is unavoidable as you enter the Bowens' residence in Hamilton. A large footprint of cabinetry with angular counters wrap the kitchen, providing ample seating for many guests. A vaulted ceiling and use of large casement windows flanking all ends of the open architecture provide ample light and air flow, and quickly dispels heat and moisture generated in kitchen spaces. Use of Energy Star Compliant appliances also saves energy and reduces heat gain. Cabinetry: Luxury Line TM Cabinets made by Teddwood in Thompsontown, Pennsylvania, and sold by One Way Lumber in Salem, Ma. All of our custom cabinetry is made in the U.S.A. with emphasis on sustainable forestry practices. Product used in this kitch- en is AcryluxTM high gloss white acrylic with lower VOC plywood construction for durability. Countertops: IceStone countertops. They glisten in the dark under the illuminated cabinets, and truly look beautiful. To accommodate pop up electrical outlets, we went with 3" thick countertops and we built an extra island support wall to accommodate its mass rather than cluttering the clean wall tile and island paneling with outlet cutouts – makes for a clean and modern look while satisfying electrical building code requirements. IceStone is made at the Brooklyn Navy yard U.S.A., and boasts certifications in non- toxicity and repurposing of recycled materials. Undercabinet Lighting: WAC lighting used are LED energy efficient lights. The cabinets were built with a custom plenum to house the lights so you will not see them when the cabinet doors are opened. It also allowed for wiring to be passed along invisibly. "I've known the Bowens for many years, so I was not surprised to hear from them again on another impressive project. Many of our customers are return customers. But I was especially enthusiastic to work with the Bowens on their Hamil- ton project because of their dedication to buying American while mak- ing sound energy decisions, which resonated throughout their home. When a customer makes an extra effort to support U.S.A manufacture AND our environment, it speaks volumes on what we are capable of achieving here at home if more people are willing to make similar deci- sions. You will find that these efforts come back to reward, from all of those involved, to give a little bit more to make projects like this possi- ble and affordable". With 30 plus years of custom kitchen design and construction experience, we bring maturity to design decisions and advice so the end result is structurally sound as well as timeless beautiful.
