Dear friends and neighbors, I hope this issue of LiveWell finds you and your family well. I anticipate you are preparing for a wonderful holiday season ahead with all of your loved ones. As a new year approaches, many exciting developments continue here at CHRISTUS Southeast Texas Health System. I am thrilled to be able to share with you several exciting transformations happening in our community. First, our prenatal/maternity services team at St. Elizabeth has been diligently working toward new initiatives such as exclusive rooming-in and breastfeeding with moms and babies, as well as a neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) transport team. Members of our highly trained NICU staff now travel anywhere in southeast Texas to transport preterm and/or critically ill newborns to St. Elizabeth for a higher level of care. Prior to this initiative, many of these babies required transfer to Houston. Additionally, on page 8, you'll read about another exciting change taking place on our third floor. New mom Lauren Adams learned firsthand how skin- to-skin contact makes a difference when she gave birth to her daughter, Oaklee, in June. What's more, the St. Elizabeth NICU is currently undergoing a $2.5 million renovation to make it a Level III NICU, representing the highest level of care in southeast Texas. I am proud of the team of physicians, nurses and clinical experts who have worked tirelessly to implement these amazing advances in our standard of care. Our new moms, our tiniest patients and their families can expect the highest quality of care as they begin their new journey here at St. Elizabeth. Our CHRISTUS mission continues to be strong in South Jefferson County at CHRISTUS Southeast Texas St. Mary. I hope you enjoy reading Maria Vargas' story on page 3, in which she describes her outstanding surgical experience at St. Mary. As we continue to transform across our nine-county region, we are committed to bringing the latest advances in technology to the patients we serve. Made possible by the Jasper Hospital District, we are pleased to announce that 3-D mammography, the most advanced mammogram today, is now available at CHRISTUS Southeast Texas Jasper Memorial hospital. In closing, I hope you enjoy this issue of LiveWell and find it engaging and useful in managing your health and that of your family. We are proud to be your health care partner and thank you for choosing CHRISTUS.
