T from the Publisher HANK YOU VERY much for reading the May/June issue of MD News. Once again, we examine the world-class health care available right here in Central New York. Our cover story features the Empire State Neurosurgical Institute (ESNI), a wide-ranging practice with offices in Syracuse and Johnson City, NY. Since the mid-1960s, this practice has been pushing the boundaries of neurological and neurosurgical care. ESNI employs world-class physicians, cutting-edge technology and first-rate facilities to provide the finest neurosurgical care in the region. With, collectively, hundreds of years of experience on hand and fellowship- trained physicians on call 24/7, ESNI promotes a multidisciplinary approach to cranial and spinal conditions. Our interior features focus on two areas, geriatric patient care and changes in medical coding requirements. In our first feature, we examine the Aging and Complex Care services at Crouse Hospital. In response to a shift toward more patients falling into the over-65 age category, Crouse Hospital has developed several distinctive programs aimed at meeting seniors' needs in a holistic manner. Under the leadership of Christy Bond, Director of Aging and Complex Care, and Dr. David Dube, Crouse Hospital has become a prototype for geriatric patient care. In our second interior feature, we look at how changes in medical coding requirements and the need for updated training have made Bryant & Stratton College a true resource for Central New York practices. Bryant & Stratton has been serving the educational needs of Central New York since 1976. Instructors with real-life experience like Beth Sassano, COO of North Medical Cardiovascular Group, can take the mystery out of ICD-10 for you and your staff. In his column, Jerry Hoffman, Executive Vice President of the Onondaga County Medical Society, looks at the potential effects of the Supreme Court decision on the constitutionality of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act. Jerry points out that, no matter the determination of the judicial review, physicians should remain the captains of the health care delivery system. It is logical that physicians are best qualified for this role, and we await the high court's decision. Once again, I would like to thank all those who come together to create our magazine. Here at MD News, we are dedicated to delivering an engaging reader experience — one with real local relevance. In each issue, we highlight distinguished and accomplished physicians and practice groups. We also provide you with updates on the latest medical studies, pointers for managing your practice and a unique look at what is happening in the local medical community. We love to receive nominations for cover stories, current news within your organization and feedback on articles. I would also like to suggest you visit www.mdnews.com to discover a wonderful resource for health care marketing. We are here to serve the physician and health care community.
