NuHealth's Department of Cardiology and staff from Nassau University Medical Center pledged their support to the American Heart Association's Go Red campaign, on National "Wear Red Day." The American Heart Association's Go Red for Women campaign has, for more than a decade, raised aware - ness of heart disease as the No. 1 killer of women — killing more women than all forms of cancer combined. Most women don't notice the symptoms of heart disease until it's too late, which is why heart disease has been called a silent killer. Lorinda Bauer, Clinical Director of Cardiac Services, and Amgad N. Makaryus, MD, Chair of the Department of Cardiology, led an informative program for patients and staff on Feb. 5 about the strides made by this campaign with respect to cardiovascular disease and tips on healthy cardiovascular living. Raise Your Voice with Go Red! St. Francis Hospital, The Heart Center has once again received one of the most coveted and prestigious honors a hospital and its nurses can achieve — Magnet designation for excellence in nursing care. This recogni - tion is the result of a rigorous evaluation that included extensive interviews and reviews of nursing services, clinical outcomes, and pa- tient care and satisfaction. It marks the third- consecutive time the hospital has received this highly regarded nationwide recognition. Only about 7 percent of hospitals in the United States have earned the Magnet desig- nation, and St. Francis has been a Magnet- designated hospital since 2006. It is one of only four hospitals on Long Island to hold this national distinction and the only hospital in Nassau County to be designated three times. Northwell Health (formerly North Shore-LIJ Health System) and Boca Raton Regional Hospital (BRRH) are encouraging thousands of New York-area residents with second homes in or near Boca Raton to enroll in Boca HealthLink Exchange, a program that enables healthcare providers to share medi - cal records of patients served by Northwell facilities and BRRH. The first-of-its-kind service ensures that Northwell patients and their families who travel south during the winter months will experience the same level of world-class patient care and customer service in south Florida as they are accustomed to in the New York area. The HealthLink initiative is an outgrowth of the affiliation between Northwell and BRRH that began in 2014. For more information about Boca HealthLink, go to NY2Boca.com. PBMC Health and Peconic Bay Medical Center celebrated becoming a full member of Northwell Health by hosting an official signing ceremony in the Kanas Center for Advanced Surgery Atrium at Peconic Bay Medical Center. This event signaled Peconic Bay Medical Center's transformation into a true regional medical center. The partnership will invest in the East End by bringing world- class services while keeping true to its roots as a community hospital. The newest member and 21st hospital to join Northwell Health's system, Peconic Bay Medical Center expands Northwell Health's presence into eastern Long Island, while joining its existing Suffolk County hospitals: Huntington Hospital, Southside Hospital in Bay Shore and South Oaks Hospital in Amityville. The Emergency Department physicians who support Peconic Bay Medical Center have joined Northwell Health Physician Partners effective Jan. 15. Meanwhile, physicians who cover the Radiology Department will join Northwell Health Physician Partners on Feb. 12. The transition will continue to provide patients with exceptional, comprehensive and quality clinical care. For the 46th consecutive year, Northwell Health employees gathered to honor the teachings and vision of the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. The ceremony, held at North Shore University Hospital's Rust Auditorium, was simulcast to other Northwell facilities across the New York metro area. This year's keynote speaker was Freeman Hrabowski, PhD, President of The University of Maryland, Baltimore County and a child leader in the civil rights movement, who was featured in Spike Lee's 1997 documen - tary, "Four Little Girls", the story of the LOCAL Nuhealth's Department of Cardiology and staff from NUMC pledged their support to the American Heart Association's Go Red campaign.
