In November 2015, Eugene Krauss, MD, director of
orthopedic surgery at Syosset Hospital, part of Northwell
Health, spoke at a Knights of Columbus meeting in Seaford
about what people need to know when considering joint
replacement surgery.
"When you mention hip or knee replacement, people
think about stories they've heard from parents or friends
who have had them — sometimes a while ago," said
Dr. Krauss. "Technology has changed. Outcomes are better.
Joint replacement patients today go home sooner."
Dr. Krauss, who has a background in aerospace
engineering, feels very strongly about educating people so
they feel empowered to make their own decisions about joint
replacement surgery. His lecture at the Knights of Columbus
meeting was the first in a series sponsored by Northwell
Health, formerly the North Shore–LIJ Health System.
"If you want to get to age 90 feeling healthy and happy,
you need to maintain your mobility," said Dr. Krauss.
"Staying active helps you stay healthier overall, physically
and psychologically. We want to empower patients to reach
that goal."
