From admission to discharge, highly trained medical specialists give their undivided attention to CHI St. Joseph's Health patients and keep families and admitting physicians informed. H ospitalists are healthcare providers who complete specialty training focused on giving the best care to patients in a hospital setting. CHI St. Joseph's Health hospitalists are here to make sure patients get the care and information they need during their stays, helping them heal during their time at the hospital and once they return home. ON HOME TURF One of the advantages of using the services of a hospitalist is that they are based at the hospital and are more available for patients and families. Our physician hospitalists are available 24/7, and a nurse practitioner hospitalist provides overnight coverage. That means whatever time of day it is, there is always a CHI St. Joseph's Health hospitalist equipped to answer questions, explain procedures, and look after patients' needs. BETTER OUTCOMES There are many benefits of the hospitalist program for patients. It allows patients to receive ongoing and immediate care, including ordering diagnostic tests, monitoring patients' conditions, making treatment decisions and coordinating care with all members of the team. Nationwide studies have shown that hospitalists can improve the quality of care, increase patient comfort, improve communication between patients, families, and caregivers, and minimize the time the patient needs to stay in the hospital. CONNECTING THE DOTS Part of being a good hospitalist is having strong communication skills and communicating with other medical professionals. When patients need expert help, hospitalists make sure the right specialists are consulted, and they coordinate with each patient's referring physician during and after a hospital stay to prevent gaps in care.
